THE PAIN IN THE…

Facebook, Stop Bullying Us!

I’ve always suspected that part of Facebook’s business model was the sales of info and profiling of their users. One more clue convinces me now even more.

Since I’m on Facebook (2007, that is), I used my regular general email account both for registration and receiving my feeds.

Now, for over two months I had a message stating my email wasn’t good anylonger dwelling on my home page.

Facebook

So, after a log period trying to figure out what that was supposed to mean, I finally asked Facebook’s customer suport. That’s the reply I’ve got…

Hi Alex,

Unfortunately, we do not currently support email addresses with generic prefixes like the email you have listed (e.g. info@, webmaster@ etc.). You will need to change your contact email to a personal email address that does not contain this type of prefix. This can be done from the Account Settings page. Since email addresses of this nature are typically used for organizations and businesses, we do not allow them to be used for personal Facebook accounts. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this policy may have caused you.

Thanks for understanding,

Amit
User Operations
Facebook

Now, praise to Amit, he’s always been very friendly and useful, but why changing the rues at once with no warning and without telling you what to do? As I already wrote, I was using that address since over two years, and there was no question of using my private email address. So, I switched to Gmail.

The drawbacks?

I don’t know about you people, but to me every mail account is dedicated to a certain kind of mail, and my notifications from services and social come into my general address. Gmail I use for different stuff.

Why the hell can’t we decide what and how to use, and why must we have a service we’re using telling us what to do? Is that what they call user friendliness?
